The Pre-Match Setup

Pikashow fans, break out the popcorn, because we kind of want to start things off with Łukasz Róg’s Rage of Stars, a 2026 sci-fi action thriller which does the metal thing and puts the end of the world on disc one. If you’re looking for a pre-tournament mind game, here it is: an evocative story of a woman in the International Special Forces, afflicted by premonitions of the end of the world. This is not a bout of the crickets. This is the last dance for humanity. This movie looks like it’s going to be a combination of a lot of slow burn and a lot of action. The end of the world is a classic race against time, but in this case, it’s a set up that could potentially be the reason all of humanity goes extinct and in this case, could also be the world’s only hope. This really sets up an opportunity for a movie with some excellent strategy. The peak of a bad movie is a last minute rush job. This looks like it has the makings of a film with a plot that is as excellent as the strategy. The set up is a classic high-stakes thriller. This is going to take some serious work from the directors.

The Star Players

Some interesting names’ll pop up when we start talking about the roster for Rage of Stars In the role of our premonition plagued special operative is Andrea Tivadar. Tivadar has to sell the physical and psychological burden of what it means to be the only person in the world to see the end of existence before the rest of the world gets to. Unrelenting hope, unwavering resolve, all juxtaposed against Despair and internal conflict. When she steps on the field, she is the central Striker. Tivadar’s role requires her to play between the lines, physically present but emotionally deep, as a potential hero, and a doomsday prophet. As part of the supporting cast, we have Jack McEvoy and Jord Knotter, playing respectively the defensive line and the midfield, who also add the yin to our leading actress’s yang. Knotter, in particular, explains grounding presence in a story that has potential to get abstract, and as such, he is key piece to the puzzle. This cast meshes beautifully, and when they do, the outcome is shaping up to be a cohesive team effort, where each moment carry the film along to the next, with each pass, shot, and tackle having potential to be the game defining play.

The Momentum Swings

Every game will have good and bad moments. Rage of Stars captures your attention with its opening act. It has this darker edge that gets you invested. The first few scenes build an engaging mystery and create this great sense of dread that sucks you in. Once the action sequences happen, they give this great strategic execution due to this special forces back end of the writers. They don't feel stale and slow, they add this great amount of tactical execution that creates a cool balance to the sequences. The film has a good high-speed, high-intensity feel. It loses this execution at times during its 1 hour and 46 minutes, usually from the middle acting sequences, where it feels more like the plot has hit a wall than a momentum builder. It’s kind of like one of those possession teams that can't seem to make the final pass. That said, the film never really feels like a total loss. With each target hit, it builds a great sense of passion and dopamine that you can really see the director has great ambition. Unfortunately, missing its mark even slightly creates this great sense of unexecuted potential. There’s this great sense of shift and lack of execution that leaves the viewer wanting to see so much more of what the film has to offer.

The Full-Time Scoreline

When the dust settles, what should we think of Rage of Stars? It’s a sci-fi thriller with an ambitious story and a great lead performance of Andrea Tivadar. Łukasz Róg has no problem directing the ambitious, and this movie has grounded action and psychological impact. It's clear why Róg decided to tell this story, and it benefits from the emotional scenes it tries to show. The brilliant moments of hard action and resonant character moments are scattered throughout the film, but there are problems with overall intensity and with keeping focused on the story, which thrown pacing off. Ultimately, the inconsistent aspects of the movie hinder its ability to crack the top, but it isn't a total failure. Tivadar's performance helps sustain interest in the movie, especially for sci-fi movies that deal with the "end of the world'. The director makes long lasting decisions, and it's worth a watch after a long day. While it's not the best, it's superior to most other things. It poses a good fight, and it makes a decent pick if you don't have to watch real cricket on Pikashow.
