It's not a scrimmage, but a combination of their wills. It's inevitable that there is some degree of spark of chemistry between the two. According to the summary, they end up falling 'in love despite themselves', which is a cliché romantic drama plot. The rest of the game flows nicely but then an unseen, sinister foe enters the game, 'someone is watching them, determined to tear them apart and expose secrets that could destroy both Alma and Vadim'. The R-rating foreshadows that the themes of the film will be explored in a serious manner and won't be a comedy. It will definitely be a dramatic index.

The Star Players: Who's Delivering the Big Play?

To be convincing in the role, she needs to bring depth to Alma’s hidden life through her dedicated passion for movie-making, and even begin to understand what that means given her life of privilege. There is a firm tendency in this role towards the vulnerable and the strong. As Vadim Arcadi, Lucas Barski plays against the type, Solo Vadim, the Rebel with a past. Barski needs to project that intensity and profound solitude in order to attract Alma. Di Savoia and Barski’s chemistry is the driving force of the romantic drama. Unconvincing and forced chemistry has the potential to rob the whole of its emotional value. Their collaboration and growing attraction has to feel right, the friction and eventual partnership even more so given the nature of a rivalry.

Being at the center of an ensemble is Manon Gaurin as the director of each performance and the overall programming of the series. A talent for telling a story through dynamic aesthetic choices is important, especially in a drama about the art of secrets and surveillance. A director should maintain the perfect balance of suspicion and control to create the desired level of tension without divulging too much. The shape of the narrative is suggested to be full of gaps and focused without moments of bloat. The 1 hour and 34 minute runtime suggests each moment and therefore each scene, line and particularly our beloved stars is of the utmost importance and should contribute to the high stakes of the evolving narrative. The strong supporting cast, which includes Zoé Garcia, are also instrumental to the success of the project. More often than not it creates a spark that will bring a romantic chemistry to the screen. Both Di Savoia and Barski have great chemistry on screen. The story is at its most compelling when the chemistry is at its peak and the audience is pulled into their secret world. This film thrives on the balance of two opposites. One of these opposites is the threat of exposure which creates a high stakes emotional game. The push and pull and the breaking of walls is when the story gets its rhythm like a perfectly executed counter attack.

The movie's main issue is inconsistent momentum. The central romance is engaging for most audience members, yet, many feel that certain aspects do not connect consistently. The ‘someone is watching’ subplot attempts to generate suspense, but, inevitably, crosses into genre tropes. If the big reveal of the antagonist or the ‘hidden’ secrets do not provide a true twist, the palpable suspense that has been built can quickly evaporate as it was all but expected. The movie can feel slow at times, especially when it falls back on genre tropes without elaboration or nuance. The R-rating for a drama adds an expectation for heavy, meaningful, and emotionally intense secrets that can create a sense of weight and gravity in the story. Without those things, the story becomes melodramatic, and the movie, like a team struggling to keep possession, can quickly lose momentum.

Don't we all need a little of the perfect in our lives? Though it falls short in some areas (some would say many), this series does provide a solid idea of what the perfect romance could look like. It captures the essence of a fresh, epic, and chill romance how the other elements fell a bit short. Some aspects of the show were almost disappointingly simple. Some of the large dramatic moments were diminished by the central romance and the inconsistent pacing. Because of these elements, some of the intended dramatic beats lacked their promise. Since this show excels at the drama of romance and the high stakes of college, it is worth a watch. Though it is nowhere near the best of what you could find, this show makes for solid entertainment. If you are up for a casually emotional show and want to see some of the same things you have seen before, give this a chance.
