Possession: Margaret Qualley in Horror Remake

The first look at the new film version of Possession is here. It'll hit theatres in 2027.

Anna's wife is played by Margaret Qualley, while Mark is played by Callum Turner. Their marriage is already deteriorating when Anna asks for a divorce, and her emotional breakdown becomes connected to bizarre and unexplained occurrences.

Parker Finn is directing and writing the remake, with Madeline Brewer, Nicholas Alexander Chavez, Emory Cohen, Diego Calva, and Paul Dano rounding out the supporting cast.

Paramount Pictures will release Possession in U.S. theatres on June 11, 2027.

Anna and Mark's Marriage Is Falling Apart

We meet a couple where the relationship is already very troubled.

Anna and Mark are married but Anna has reached the point where she wants the marriage to end.

Variety describes Mark as a spy and details how Anna starts exhibiting disturbing behaviors after she initiates the divorce.

That gives the movie two fronts of conflict.

For the audiences experiencing the film for the first time through searches for Possession, this confirmed production is not a direct remake of the 1981 film, nor is it a continuation of the story told in the 1981 film.

Qualley Playing Anna

Margaret Qualley plays Anna, the character originally played by Isabelle Adjani.

The Numbers now officially lists Qualley as Anna and Callum Turner as Mark.

Qualley has said how taking on the role was personally important to her, specifically because of how closely associated Adjani's performance is with the film.

Adjani herself has expressed support for Qualley's casting.

That connection brings a good deal of baggage with it.

Finn isn't simply creating a new, unrelated character with Qualley's casting. He's redefining a role that was pivotal to the first film's identity.

For people looking up Pikashow APK, the important confirmed update is that Qualley's character is named Anna.

Callum Turner plays Mark.

According to Variety, the character is a spy whose marriage is threatened when Anna requests a divorce, which eventually leads to the dissolution of his marriage.

The Numbers also confirm Turner is playing Mark.

In the absence of a detailed official synopsis from Paramount, it's reasonable to expect not all elements of the original will be reflected.

No doubt, Paramount's aim is to lure in audiences who are curious to see what kind of contemporary treatment Finn will give to the story.

Paul Dano is also part of the supporting cast, as are Madeline Brewer, Nicholas Alexander Chavez, Emory Cohen and Diego Calva.

Characters played by the supporting cast remain a mystery. That's meaningful because Possession relies heavily on the enigmas surrounding Anna and Mark.

IMDb lists production as ongoing, and doesn't name the supporting characters, either.

Rather than assigning them roles from the original film, it's more appropriate to wait until Paramount Pictures announces how Parker Finn reworks the supporting characters.

Parker Finn both writes and directs the 2027 version.

The project is based on Andrzej Żuławski's 1981 film Possession, which starred Isabelle Adjani and Sam Neill.

Finn is best known for creating the Smile horror franchise.

For Possession, he also produces, along with Jonathan Fass, Roy Lee, Andrew Childs and Robert Pattinson. Marc Bienstock is an executive producer.

The production companies listed are Paramount Pictures, Bad Feeling and Icki Eneo Arlo.

The remake filmed in New Jersey, with IMDb listing Jersey City as one of the production locations.

What's still unknown?

Paramount has not released an official, complete version of the plot.

The roles of Paul Dano, Madeline Brewer, Diego Calva, Emory Cohen and Nicholas Alexander Chavez are still unknown.

The official, final running time of the movie has not been released.

The biggest unknown is how closely Parker Finn's screenplay sticks to the supernatural developments of the original film.

What is known is Anna and Mark's marriage is failing. Anna's strange actions create a mystery. Things gradually start moving to the realm of the supernatural and the psychological.

Possession opens in U.S. theaters on June 11, 2027, via Paramount Pictures.

According to The Numbers, Possession is set to hit Brazil, Australia, Germany and New Zealand on June 10, with the U.S. and U.K. getting it a day later on June 11.

Possession is being released on the same U.S. weekend as Universal's How to Train Your Dragon 2, which is being distributed by Focus Features.

But while both these movies may be competing for the family audience, possession is distinctly different, as it is focused on the disintegration of a marriage, and what is happening to Anna that is beyond the ordinary.

We may assume that the character of Mark is based on the author of the novel, the revered Canadian playwright, David Austen.

In addition, Anna stands at the center of a mystery whose nature Paramount is still keeping secret.

Possession is definitely not a typical horror remake. It's bringing a known story that incorporates a disintegrating marriage and the psychologically and supernaturally ambiguous world to a new audience through its leads Callum Turner and Margaret Qualley.
