An angel and a devil, representing heaven and hell respectively, have become fond of the human world after being stuck there for many years. Aziraphale, the angel, is picky yet gentle, while Crowley, the devil, is sarcastic and enjoys fashion. They are supposed to be archenemies, but after years of being together they have developed a bond rooted in habit and warmth. When Armageddon draws near, both find that they wish to stop the event because they are tired of the workings of heaven and hell. Reluctantly, they decide to work together to stop the end of the world, which takes them through prophetic chaos and cosmic order. The show takes a unique approach to the end of the world, focusing on the friendships that can blossom as a result of free will and dismantling of oppressive systems. The story uses humor to point out the chaos of humanity but also highlights the importance of compassion and the moral ambiguity of loyal choice over the human mess.
